The Lost Steps

Sound: Inouk Demers

The Lost Steps opens with hands leafing through a book containing diagrams of a piano, which points both to a quality of mapping in many of the subsequent shots and also directs particular attention from the onset to sound. A non-linear narrative follows with three scenes that both anchor the video as a whole and mirror the overall structure of the music composed by Inouk Demers and these are: the forward motion through the tunnel, the stasis of the path and the departure of the train as seen through its back window. Framing of images within images refers back to the methods of the video’s construction and also makes reference to notions of framing in painting and film history as influences.
